The Hot Winds of New Orleans Jazz Blow into São Paulo for the Bourbon Street Festival

São Paulo, August 23, 2010 -- As Shamarr Allen walked off the stage to the cheers of the students at the Bacarelli Institute August 13, he told them, “Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something.  You can do anything and music can take you there!”  Music has taken Shamarr from the streets of New Orleans all the way to Sao Paulo where the Underdawgs kicked off the 8th Bourbon Street Fest with a workshop that dazzled the students with a high-octane fusion of jazz, rock and pop. With a wide range of jazz standards and pop hits such as Coldplay’s “La Vida Loca” Shamarr had the students dancing on the stage with the group.  The workshop in Sao Paulo’s largest favela was coordinated by the U.S. Consulate and the Bourbon Street Fest organizers as part of the music festival’s efforts to give back to the community.  Check out the video of Shamarr Allen's workshop at Youtube.
